Path of Knowledge presented at el Museo Nacional de Arte is dedicated to José María Velasco, is a dynamic exhibition comprised of painting, photography and sculpture. Under the anniversary of the mexican landscape painter José María Velasco, the artist Alejandro Pintado valued the artistic processes of his celebrated works through an analysis of drawing, geometry, representation, mathematics, perspective and the composition. The show is the fifth intervention cycle "100 and 30. Palace and Museum. Contemporary Dialogues "of Munal, which is showcasing what happens behind a finished work. While living and working in London, he turned his attention to the English countryside for this exhibition. These are images of natural landscapes that are immediately familiar but which Pintado is keen to point out are as constructed as anything we find in an urban environment. Sketched in charcoal on raw, unprimed canvas, the scenes, borrowed from 18 century engravings, serve as the support for Pintado’s interventions in brightly coloured acrylic. Pintado seeks to gently pick apart the tangle of social and political layering within the idea of the countryside, and in particular of the picturesque, that grew up in the grounds of aristocratic estates of the era. At this time the natural environment was being re-designed by gardeners like Capability Brown and William Kent, using their clients’ memories and mementoes of the Grand Tour as inspiration. The idea of England, it turns out, owes much to painters like Claude Lorraine who influenced both the creation and the depiction of the landscape of the time. Pintado 's interest lies in the comparison of the European Academic representative technique and the Mexican landscape. Two ways of looking that later in history became the formula for building mexican iconic national landscape. The European academy defining national identity. Through a series observations Pintado leads us to reflect on the way we perceive reality. He takes elements that are a result of a more complex series of events, such as the appreciation of color described in physics as visible wavelength in the electromagnetic spectrum as in Chromatic wave propulsion where the waves travel over the landscape like colored particles . On Movimiento desviado con aceleración continua, gravity is the central theme of the piece, with the aim of recording the way that this occurs, Pintado takes the observations of one of his experiments where metal powder dropping on a magnet generated elliptical forms. In the piece Before history the artist turns the sound imperceptible to the human eye in a three-dimensional graph produced by the waves in the basaltic rocks. By bouncing radar frequencies emitted we can see as much texture detail of an object, so that the three-dimensional plane can be seen by listening . The way we see depends directly on the knowledge we had in the past and the way in which we incorporate new ways of looking the present. This installation created specifically for the central courtyard of the Museo Nacional de San Carlos reflects on the pictorial representation of the past, specifically about the view of Mexico in the eyes of artists of the eighteen century, years before the advent of photography. The first impressions of America were subject to the view of the artist and later the objects produced influenced the imagination of those who observed them. Incisión al Romanticismo plays with translations between reality and the views by 18th century artist José María Velasco all the way to the 21st century. For this I selected one of his most iconic paintings of Mexico: "Vista del valle desde el cerro de Santa Isabel” 1876 Traditionally the pictorial space is delimited by the two-dimensions of its surface and at the edge of the canvas this artistic theatricality fades. For this work the pictorial space is violated by opening its borders to the three-dimensionality of where it is placed inviting the viewer to travel on its composition, to observe his forehead, his side and moving through new constructions between pictorial and architectural universe of the museum’s courtyard. Antagonism in materials: linen, wood charcoals and live with industrial color a metals bars.
